'Lonely Planet' is a heartfelt, funny and moving play set in an unnamed American city during the AIDS epidemic in the 80’s. It focuses on the relationship between Jody, a cautious and thoughtful man who insulates himself in the map store he owns; and Carl, a frequent visitor to the store with an unusually vivid imagination and multiple, ever-changing occupations. Carl notices Jody has been isolating himself from the world and starts bringing chairs into his shop to convince him to confront the fears which prevent him from leaving his store. The story follows these two characters as they cope with their friends dying of AIDS, Jody’s fear of going for a checkup and the prejudice against people who are HIV positive.
The play would run from the 14th of June til the 7th of July, 2018 at the Trafalgar Studio 2 (90 seats), during Gay Pride. The Cast and Crew include:
Director: Ian Brown - Previous artistic director of the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds and Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. Lighting Designer: Will Scarnell - A senior stage management tutor at LAMDA and freelancing lighting designer. Sound Designer: Peter West Stage Manager: Rachel Graham Jody: Alex McMorran Carl: Aaron Vodovoz
